Climate Change and Urban Sustainable Growth
Milan towards Expo 2015
The city of Milan is already strongly committed in reaching the target of reducing its environmental impact, especially as regards greenhouse gases emissions. In addition, it is planning interventions to increase energy efficiency, reduce CO2 emission and improve the liveability of the city before, during and after the Expo which will be held there in 2015.
During the conference Ms. Letizia Moratti, mayor of the city, and Mr. Cyril Mueller, the World Bank Director for Europe, signed in fact a cooperation agreement in the framework of the activities for the Expo, an event which means to be strongly focused on sustainability.
The World Bank will help Milan in turning the plans for this event into reality by finding new partners and providing both technical experience and further resources to fulfil the set objectives.
Milan will also share these sustainability plans with other cities, thus helping them face the challenges of climate change and sustainable development, and contributing to increase cooperation worldwide, especially in developing countries.
