In fast-developing countries it is important to plan cities’ structures and services in advance, in order to try and help economic development respect the environment and people’s health. This issue, with a special focus on the managing of the problems relating to water pollution, is the subject addressed in the advanced training course on Water Pollution Prevention and Control organised by the VIU and the CASS and taking place in Italy from March 6 to 20 2010.

With the aim to share and compare the Chinese and Italian approaches and to learn from real case studies and best practices, the agenda was designed to offer the 40 participants several interesting site visits to treatment plants, besides the discussion of the policy-making and legal aspects of water management. One-day visits will be dedicated to the industrial waste water treatment plant of Acque del Chiampo S.p.A. and the ISE - Institute of Ecosystem Study research center on lake ecosystems management.
