Montpellier, France. December 14-18, 2009

Marine coastal ecosystems gather one third of the world's ecological resources in the Biosphere but are under increasing anthropic and environmental pressures.
Lagoons cover more than 13% of the world shoreline and highly contribute to the productivity of coastal zones. However, they are among the most fragile coastal ecosystems and the most threatened by human activities.

The Fourth European Conference on Coastal Lagoon Research, organized by the Lagoon Ecosystems joint research unit (ECOLAG, UMR 5119), and opening today in Montpellier, France, is therefore aimed at gathering scientists and managers in order to discuss the most recent research outputs and to develop an integrative approach for the successful conservation of lagoon fragile ecosystems.
