The 9th "BioDomenica"
October 5, 2008 Italy
The research shows how biological products’ sales are even increasing by 5-10% while other food sectors are experiencing a reduction. This can be explained by the fact that “green” products are less dependent on oil prices and have a shorter distribution chain, which avoids much of the markup due to transport costs.
An economic benefit adds therefore to the environmental advantages of biological production and farming. A research by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) shows for example that the increased soil carbon sequestration due to organic farming can contribute in reducing greenhouse gasses up to six times if compared with traditional farming practices.
On the basis of these encouraging results, AIAB will organise the 9th “BioSunday” on October 5, 2008. In the main squares of over 50 cities all over Italy, stalls for the display and sale of organic products will be organised, in order to let people taste biological products and meet representatives of farmers and environmental associations.
